THE HEART OF EVERSLEY RANGERS: MEET THE REMARKABLE MAC
What an honour it was to meet Malcolm “Mac” Berks, an incredible 83-year-old who has dedicated almost 50 years of his life to Eversley Rangers Juniors FC and the local community.
From watching generations of children grow through the club to seeing players such as John Salako pass through its doors, Mac has created countless memories. He even remembers Gareth Southgate handing out trophies — and Mac making sure he received a bottle of Scotch afterwards!
But behind the laughter and memories is a man who is now deeply saddened to see the club he loves fall into disrepair.
Mac says promises of improvements from the council have not been fulfilled, with problems including mould, a failed boiler and showers that no longer work. After around eight years of asking, the club has only recently had its hot water restored.
Yet Mac keeps going.
He's still working as a builder, still involved with Eversley Rangers, still dancing in Benidorm and still creating memories for the next generation.
From heartbreaking moments to hilarious stories, childhood sweethearts, grassroots football and even a little romance in Benidorm — Mac's story really has it all.
This is more than a story about football. It's about community, memories and one remarkable man who never stopped giving.
